LANCASTER COUNTY, PA – Last Wednesday, Lancaster County Judge Merrill Spahn sentenced Cherrelle Byrd, a 36-year-old resident of Mountville, to 50 to 120 months in prison.

Byrd had previously pleaded guilty in June to one count of voluntary manslaughter.

The charge stems from an incident on April 16, 2021, when West Hempfield Township Police responded to a residence on the 400 block of Hillside Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found Richard Williams deceased, with Byrd admitting to the shooting. The incident was a result of a domestic dispute turned violent.

Byrd’s defense highlighted years of domestic violence leading up to the event. Byrd faced a potential maximum of 20 years in prison.
