BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Saturday that Rafael Martinez, a 35-year-old former cab driver from East New York, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Martinez pleaded guilty to first-degree rape in June and was sentenced on Friday by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo.

According to evidence, on August 10, 2020, Martinez picked up a 12-year-old girl from a relative’s home and was supposed to drive her home.

Instead, he assaulted her at gunpoint while driving around for more than two hours.

He will also have 20 years of post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender upon his release.
