PHILADELPHIA, PA – District Attorney Larry Krasner announced the arrest of Mark Dial, a former Philadelphia Police Officer, in connection with the fatal shooting of Eddie Irizarry.

The incident occurred on August 14, in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Body-worn camera footage captured the event, showing Dial and his partner following Irizarry by vehicle.

The footage shows Dial approaching Irizarry’s parked vehicle with his firearm drawn. Irizarry was holding a small, open folding knife against his thigh.

Dial discharged his weapon six times, striking Irizarry multiple times. Irizarry was later pronounced dead at Temple Hospital, with the cause of death listed as “Multiple Gunshot Wounds.”

Dial has been charged by the District Attorney’s Special Investigations Unit with multiple offenses, including Murder and Aggravated Assault. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
