WASHINGTON, D.C.—A teenager was fatally shot yesterday afternoon in Northeast D.C. A confrontation on Monday afternoon near a bustling commercial zone led to the shooting. A man who tried to intervene sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at the 2300 block of Washington Place, close to the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station. While on patrol, an officer heard gunshots at approximately 4:30 p.m. Responding to the sounds, the officer found that a teenage boy and a man had been shot. The teenager was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The intervening man is in stable condition at a hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing three men, all wearing black clothing and blue masks. One of the suspects was seen holding a black handgun. Following the incident, all suspects fled the scene in a black SUV.

Local police are urging anyone with information to call 911 immediately and refrain from taking independent action. The investigation is ongoing.
