Shooting Incident on Kemble St Leads to Arrest

UTICA, NY – A shooting incident occurred on Kemble St at approximately 2:45 PM on Tuesday. The victim did not sustain life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, thanks to the efforts of the Utica Fire Department and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital staff.

Shortly after the incident, a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued for the suspect. Members of the Warrant Unit located the suspect and suspect vehicle en route to a last-known address. A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and the driver was detained for further investigation.

After gathering witness statements and surveillance video, probable cause was established to charge 42-year-old Tyrrell Royster of Utica with the shooting.

The Major Crimes Unit is still investigating the circumstances and the relationship between the suspect and the victim. A search warrant executed on the suspect’s vehicle revealed a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

Royster now faces charges including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
