Juvenile Arrested for Murder of DuVal High School Student

LANHAM, MD – A 17-year-old male from Glenarden has been arrested and charged as an adult for the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Jayda Medrano-Moore, a student from DuVal High School.

The arrest was made by the Homicide Unit of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Officers responded to a shooting report in the 9800 block of Palamar Drive on September 11 at approximately 3:45 p.m. Medrano-Moore was found outdoors with a gunshot wound and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Using multiple investigative methods and anonymous tips provided to Prince George’s County Crime Solvers, detectives identified and arrested the juvenile suspect on Thursday evening.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was walking on Palamar Drive post-school when a skirmish broke out between two groups involved in an ongoing conflict. It is believed that Medrano-Moore attempted to intervene in the fight when she was shot.

The juvenile suspect faces charges of first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, and a firearms offense. He is currently held at the Department of Corrections with no option for bond.

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 301-516-2512.
