Parolee Busted on Warrant Found with Loaded Illegal Gun

SYRACUSE, NY – On Thursday, Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division, Warrant Section, arrested Katron Chavis, 39, on the 1900 block of S. State Street. Chavis had an active arrest warrant for a previous drug charge and was also on parole.

During the arrest, Chavis attempted to flee and resisted handcuffing.

A struggle ensued, during which Detectives observed a loaded 9 mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun in Chavis’s waistband. The weapon was secured after applying use-of-force.

Chavis was arrested for his outstanding warrants and faces additional charges including Resisting Arrest and multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He refused medical care after the arrest.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is asked to come forward.
