Man Arrested After Breaking into Kernan Elementary School

UTICA, NY – On Saturday, at approximately 7:20 pm, Utica Police units were dispatched to Kernan Elementary School on York St due to an alarm activation. Officers discovered a broken window and later spotted a male inside the school. The male, identified as Cody Kistner, 32, of Utica, was detained without incident after a brief chase.

Kistner faces charges of Burglary in the third degree, Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree, and Petit Larceny. He was transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.

A walkthrough with school staff revealed that Kistner had broken several classroom windows with a brick. An audit for any stolen property is pending.

The Utica Police Department is handling the investigation and asked anyone with additional information to come forward.

The case remains under investigation.
