Electric Bike Rider Fatally Struck on Route 37 East in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A 33-year-old male from Little Egg Harbor died this morning after his electric bike collided with a vehicle on Route 37 East, at the intersection of River Drive.

Shortly after 8:00 AM, police responded to the accident scene. The initial investigation showed the man was traveling west in the westbound shoulder of Route 37 East. He made a sudden left turn into traffic and was struck by a vehicle in the center lane. The vehicle’s driver remained at the scene.

The injured bicyclist was transported to Community Medical Center by Toms River EMS, where he was later pronounced dead.

Corporal Robert Westfall of the Toms River Traffic Safety is leading the ongoing investigation. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Hatzalah Volunteer EMS also assisted at the scene.
