Newark Police Need Help To Nab Scooter Thief

NEWARK, NJ – A man suspected of stealing a Hiboy S2 Electric 8.5 scooter from a South 6th Street residence is being sought by Newark police.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male suspect involved in the September 4 theft. Surveillance footage captured the event at approximately 12:23 p.m., showing the suspect taking the scooter, valued at $350, from the hallway of a residential building. Another male, sitting on the building’s porch, accompanied the suspect during the theft.

The suspect has a dark brown complexion and dreadlocks, and was seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, red underwear, and gray/white/neon Air Max 90 sneakers. His accomplice also has a dark brown complexion, a beard, and a mustache, and was wearing a white T-shirt, white sneakers, and a blue NY Yankees cap.

Director Fragé has encouraged anyone with information about the suspect or his accomplice to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips provided to Crime Stoppers will remain confidential and could result in a reward.
