Newport News Police Department Is Looking for a Few Good Women

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) is reinforcing its commitment to the 30×30 pledge, a national initiative aimed at increasing the representation of women in sworn law enforcement positions to 30% by 2030.

Currently, NNPD’s female representation stands at 22%, ahead of the national average. Despite this progress, the department acknowledges that there is still work to be done.

Officer Carrie-Amanda Hanson, a patrol officer in the Central Precinct, shared her experience and motivation for joining the force. “I wanted to give back to the community,” she said, recounting an impactful interaction with an officer who responded to a vehicle accident she was involved in as a teenager.

The department is actively seeking women interested in a career in law enforcement. For those looking to join the NNPD, more information can be found on their website.
