Officer-Involved Shooting in Rochester Under Investigation

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – An officer-involved shooting took place on Monday night around 9:45 p.m.

The Rochester Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to Seventh Street after a ShotSpotter activation.

Upon arrival, officers observed a pickup truck leaving the scene at a high speed with its lights off. The truck later crashed into a pole at First and Hempel streets, and at least one man fled the scene.

A foot chase ensued, leading to a brief altercation between an officer and the suspect on First Street. The altercation resulted in the suspect being shot in the upper body.

He is currently receiving treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A handgun was recovered from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 911 or Crime Stoppers at 423-9300.
