One Dead in Burlington Electric Bicycle Crash

BURLINGTON CITY, NJ – On Tuesday, September 19, at about 7:31 AM, a severe collision between a motor vehicle and an electric bicycle occurred on East Pearl St.

The City of Burlington Police Department arrived at the scene in the 1100 block of the street and found the electric bicycle rider with serious injuries.

The injured cyclist, identified as 35-year-old Ivan Makaruha of Burlington City, was airlifted to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden.

On Saturday, Makaruha succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the motor vehicle, a 28-year-old man from Howell, New Jersey, stayed at the scene following the incident. At present, it’s believed that neither alcohol nor narcotics were factors in this collision.

The City of Burlington Police Department’s Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigation Division are currently examining the circumstances surrounding this event. They ask anyone with knowledge about the incident to contact Detective Anna Czajka at (609) 386-0262, Ext 221.
