Fundraiser in Memory of 12-Year-Old Boy Scout Killed by Drunk Driver Raises $100,000

UNIONDALE, NY – Andrew McMorris’ legacy continues to inspire and touch lives, even after his tragic passing. The 12-year-old was killed by a drunk driver in 2018 during a hike with his Boy Scout troop in Manorville.

In honor of McMorris, the Andrew McMorris Foundation held a gala at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Uniondale. The event witnessed a gathering of approximately 200 attendees, which included members from the Suffolk County Police Safe-T team. The foundation successfully raised $100,000 during the event, funds that will be directed towards scholarships, grants, and legislative advocacy initiatives.

Adding a special touch to the evening, Carter Rubin, the winner of NBC’s The Voice Season 19, delivered a performance. Rubin modified the lyrics of one of his songs to pay tribute to Andrew, celebrating the young boy’s memory and spirit.

Those close to Andrew recall a boy who was consistently radiant, welcoming everyone with a smile, and accepting of all. His enduring impact on the community is evident in the support and unity showcased at events like the foundation gala.
