Suspect in Staten Island Teen Stabbing In Custody, Possibly Gang Related

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A stabbing event occurred on Friday afternoon on Hylan Boulevard between Littlefield Avenue and Groton Street.

Syles Ular, a 13-year-old student from Clifton, was fatally stabbed during a dispute that began on an MTA bus. A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in relation to the incident.

Ular was immediately taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Prince’s Bay but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The altercation between the two boys reportedly began on an MTA bus around 2:30 p.m. and might have gang affiliations, as suggested by witness accounts of gang signs being displayed. The exact location of the stabbing, whether on or off the bus, remains unclear.

The suspect attempted to flee but was detained three blocks away by a retired NYPD sergeant, an off-duty New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officer, and another bystander.
