Marvin Mitchell, a 37-year-old resident of Springfield Gardens, Queens, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for his role in a Far Rockaway street shoot-out. The incident, which took place in March 2022, was reportedly a territorial dispute among drug dealers. Mitchell was convicted by a jury in September on multiple charges, including attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, and reckless endangerment.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the sentence, stating, “This defendant opened fire in broad daylight on a busy street with no regard for where those bullets might end up. Our streets are not the Wild West and we will continue to do everything in our power to rid them of illegal guns and drugs.”

According to trial evidence and charges, Mitchell, also known as “Fab,” fired multiple shots near 10-25 Beach 21st Street in Far Rockaway on March 21, 2022, around 4:00 p.m. Even as his target sought cover behind parked cars, Mitchell continued his shooting spree. Several parked cars were struck by the gunfire. Video surveillance from the scene showed pedestrians scattering in all directions to avoid the gunfire.

Justice Michael Yavinsky presided over the case, sentencing Mitchell on Wednesday to a term of 17 years. Mitchell was also convicted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
