Police Arrest Suspect in Road Rage Shooting on Barrancas Ave

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) deputies arrested a woman in connection with a road rage incident that escalated into a shooting on Barrancas Ave on October 12th, 2023.

Melissa Johnson turned herself in, identifying herself as the suspect in the incident that left one passenger injured.

According to the victims, a single shot was fired from the suspect’s vehicle into theirs as a result of road rage. The injured passenger was transported to the hospital before deputies arrived on the scene in response to a “shots fired” call.

Upon her surrender, deputies conducted a search of Johnson’s vehicle where they located the firearm used in the shooting. Narcotics were also found during the search. Johnson has been charged with attempted murder, deadly missiles, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and possession of marijuana weighing less than 20 grams.

The arrest and subsequent charges underscore the severity and potential consequences of road rage incidents. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and restraint while driving to prevent such violent escalations.

The injured passenger is currently receiving medical treatment, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The arrest may serve as a deterrent to others contemplating violent actions on the road.
