Jose A. Colon, a repeat felon, has been sentenced to ten years in State Prison followed by 2.5 years of post-release supervision. Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen made the announcement today, following Colon’s guilty plea to Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Violent Felony. The charges stem from a violent attack that took place on Caroline Street in downtown Saratoga Springs in May 2023.

Colon had previously admitted under oath to physically assaulting a man and forcibly stealing his wallet during a late-night incident. The victim was immediately taken to Saratoga Hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and multiple facial lacerations.

A prompt investigation led by the Saratoga Springs Police Department resulted in the seizure of crucial surveillance videos and physical evidence. The department’s Investigations Division identified Colon as a suspect and took him into custody the same day. The stolen property was also returned to the victim.

In a statement, District Attorney Heggen said, “I want to thank both the Saratoga Springs Police Department and the business owners on Caroline Street for their continued cooperation in combatting crime in downtown Saratoga Springs.”

The sentencing comes as a result of effective coordination between local law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office, illustrating a committed effort to maintain public safety in Saratoga Springs.
