ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – The Atlantic City Police Department has arrested 18-year-old Abdul Chappell, following a robbery and a tense standoff. The incident unfolded on October 16, 2023, when patrol officers responded to a call on the 800 block of Pacific Avenue, concerning an armed man in a dispute with a woman.

The man, later identified as Chappell, was reportedly involved in an altercation with a woman he was familiar with. Chappell intimidated her by suggesting he had a gun and then stole her cell phone.

Police located Chappell at his residence in the 100 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue as he was leaving the premises. Despite providing false information and resisting arrest, he was apprehended and found to be in possession of the stolen cell phone. Following the arrest, Officer John Bell secured a court-authorized search warrant to scour the residence for weapons.

The search yielded startling finds: an airsoft gun modified to look like a real handgun, complete with an extended magazine, and a separate rifle.

The recovery of these weapons added to the seriousness of the charges against Chappell.

Chappell now faces multiple charges, including Robbery, Possession of an Imitation Firearm, Possession of a large-capacity magazine, Hindering Apprehension, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
