GREENBELT, MD – A 48-year-old carpenter from Greenbelt, Maryland, in Prince George’s County, recently turned a routine day into a fortune by winning a $50,000 third-tier Powerball prize. The man, a regular player familiar with Maryland Lottery’s various games, opted for a $2 quick-pick ticket on October 8. His lucky gamble paid off in the drawing held the next day.

The ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven #11667, located at 8900 Edmonston Road in College Park. The winner checked his ticket on October 9 and soon realized the magnitude of his luck. He informed Lottery officials that although he was thrilled with the $50,000 win, he was slightly disappointed to be just one number short of bagging the $1.5 billion jackpot. The jackpot later climbed to $1.765 billion before being won by a California player on October 11.

The carpenter’s wife was overjoyed at the news of the unexpected windfall. As of now, the couple has not made any specific plans on how to spend the $50,000. When he’s not working or playing the lottery, the winner enjoys spending his leisure time at the movies and rollerblading.
