GRAY’S CREEK, NC – A student from Gray’s Creek High School faced charges on Tuesday for bringing a weapon to the school premises.

The discovery came after school officials received an anonymous tip regarding a possible weapon on campus.

Upon inspection, a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office school resource officer located a loaded Taurus 9mm in the student’s backpack.

Further search of the student’s vehicle uncovered an extended magazine containing five rounds, along with marijuana and scales.

Youth Services Detectives have since filed a petition charging the student with possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of marijuana. Despite the charges, peers describe the student as a “good kid” who may have had reasons for his actions, although they do not condone bringing weapons to school.
