BOSTON, MA – Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden today announced the completion of an investigation into the officer-involved shooting death of Nathan Allen, 28, which occurred on June 26, 2021, at Shirley and Cross streets in Winthrop. The district attorney determined that the officer acted lawfully in self-defense and defense of others. No criminal charges will be filed.

The incident involved Allen engaging in what Hayden described as a “racially-motivated rampage.” Hayden stated that the officer’s actions likely prevented further injury or loss of life. “Our investigation makes clear that the officer’s actions were justified that tragic day,” Hayden said.

Allen killed two black victims prior to being shot and killed by responding officers.
