Shoplifting Leads to Gunfire at Green Acres Mall

LONG ISLAND, NY – A shooting event unfolded Monday at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream just after 11 a.m.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder reported that a man, suspected of shoplifting at the Clique clothing store, was confronted by a security guard.

During the ensuing altercation, the suspect claimed to have a firearm, which subsequently discharged, with the bullet striking the ground.

No injuries resulted from the incident. Following the struggle, the man fled the scene, heading south through the mall’s parking structure, eventually leaving in a red SUV last seen on Mill Road.

In his haste, the suspect discarded some clothing items, leaving the scene wearing only his boxers. A shell casing was recovered, though the weapon remains missing. The mall resumed operations around 1 p.m. after a brief lockdown.
