D.C. Fireman Fired After Stopping at Chick-fil-A Enroute to 911 Call

Chick-FIl-A

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A firefighter who stopped at Chick-fil-A while an emergency call for a woman experiencing chest pains was made just a mile away has been terminated from duty.

According to a report by local NBC affiliate WRC, the incident occurred on March 24. Two firefighters in an ambulance were dispatched to respond to the emergency call. One had just ordered food via an app when the call came through.

In an early investigation, the firefighter, whose name has not been disclosed, allegedly noted in an after-incident report that they spent “literally a few minutes tops” at the restaurant. He emphasized that there was “no delay to the patient’s care or response.”

Vito Maggiolo, D.C. Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson, confirmed the termination. “Our official position is that the individual is no longer working for D.C. Fire and EMS,” said Maggiolo. The matter had been under investigation prior to the termination.
