Elizabeth Man Pleads Guilty to 2021 Fatal Stabbing, Faces Up to 23 Years in Prison

ELIZABETH, NJ — Alexis Mondesi, 50, has pled guilty to first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter in connection with the 2021 stabbing death of Yonatan Alexander Vasquez-Torres, 21, Union County officials announced.

At around 3:00 a.m. on October 10, 2021, Elizabeth Police Officers found Vasquez-Torres on the 300 block of Center Street. He had suffered a fatal stab wound. An investigation involving the Union County Homicide Task Force, Elizabeth Police Department, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit led to the identification and arrest of Mondesi.

Sentencing for Mondesi is set for December 8, 2023, before Judge Candido Rodriguez, Jr. Mondesi could face up to 23 years in State Prison and must serve at least 85% of his term before he becomes eligible for parole.
