Man with Gun Shot And Killed by North Carolina Police Following Assault of Woman

CLINTON, NC – Clinton Police officers responded to a disturbance call at a Dogwood Circle home early Thursday.

Upon arrival at 102 Dogwood Circle at 12:59 a.m., officers engaged with a female victim who reported an assault by a male suspect. The suspect allegedly used a handgun to strike her in the face and head.

Based on the description given by the female — a male wearing a possible white or black T-shirt, jeans, and black/red Jordans — officers located the male suspect hiding in a closet within the residence.

At 1:41 a.m., the situation escalated when the suspect pointed a handgun at the officers, leading them to return fire. The male suspect was fatally struck and was later pronounced dead at the location.

Clinton Police have initiated two investigations into the incident: one by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to examine the details of the shooting, and another by the Department’s Internal Affairs Unit to review departmental protocols. Officers involved are currently on administrative leave as the investigations progress.
