Teen Arrested Following the Death of a High School Senior in Robeson County

ROBESON COUNTY, NC – The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 17-year-old in relation to the shooting death of another 17-year-old, Connor Chavis, a senior at Purnell Swett High School.

The incident unfolded Thursday morning on Stanton Road in Maxton, where deputies were initially dispatched due to reports of a weapons violation.

Upon their arrival, the scene quickly turned into a homicide investigation when they discovered Chavis found deceased.

The Robeson County school district expressed their condolences, stating, “We are deeply saddened for the Chavis family,” and asked the community to support students and staff during this challenging period. Counselors were made available at the school to provide necessary assistance.

The ongoing investigation led to the arrest of three additional individuals – 19-year-old Tru Lowery, 23-year-old Jerimiah Chavis, and a 15-year-old. Each has been charged with two counts of felony conspiracy and two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling after it was discovered that two houses and a vehicle were also struck by gunfire.
