New Haven Police Cruisers Struck During Shooting Response

by Adam Devine

NEW HAVEN, CT – In the early hours of Sunday morning, two New Haven police cruisers were struck after officers were called to the scene of a shooting.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers reported hearing gunshots and proceeded to the vicinity of Chapel Street, near Temple and College streets.

Upon arrival, officers witnessed a large crowd dispersing and an erratically driven vehicle heading towards oncoming traffic. In their attempt to halt the vehicle, it collided with two police cruisers at the intersection of College Street and George Street.

The occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, with one passenger being detained while the driver managed to evade capture.

Shortly after, a juvenile with a gunshot wound to the leg sought treatment at a local hospital and is expected to recover. The New Haven Police Department is currently working to determine if the vehicle involved in the collision was also involved in the earlier shooting. They ask anyone with information to come forward.
