Schenectady Police Investigating Shooting on Broadway Announce Arrest

SCHENECTADY, NY – Schenectady Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred outside 2525 Broadway on Sunday at around 4:20 a.m. Officers found multiple shell casings on the street upon arrival. A large crowd was dispersing from a nearby party when police reached the scene.

While investigating, officers discovered a vehicle with two occupants who appeared to be unconscious. A handgun was visible inside the vehicle. Both occupants were detained. Dione Kowalchyk, 25, of Watervliet, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices.

A victim was later found at Ellis Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. It is currently unknown whether Kowalchyk was involved in the shooting. Members of the Schenectady Police Crime Scene Unit processed the scene. The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to identify a suspect.
