Suspect Charged for Melrose House Shooting

NEW YORK, NY — Terrence Allen, 41, was arrested today for illegal possession of ammunition linked to a shooting in the courtyard of the Melrose housing complex in the Bronx on September 21. Allen will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Katharine H. Parker this afternoon.

According to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, Allen allegedly fired 13 rounds from a handgun while walking through the residential building’s courtyard. FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Smith said the act jeopardized the safety of the community. NYPD Commissioner Edward A Caban highlighted the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to combat gun violence in New York City.

The complaint against Allen details the incident: On September 21 at approximately 8:28 p.m., surveillance camera footage captured Allen discharging a firearm multiple times. An individual was seated on a park bench just yards from Allen during the event.

NYPD officers, following a site inspection, collected 13 9mm shell casings. Allen was not authorized to possess ammunition due to prior felony convictions.

Allen, a resident of Freeport, New York, is charged with one count of possession of ammunition after a felony conviction. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Sentencing will ultimately be determined by the judge.
