SOUTH GLENS FALLS, NY – John F. Lincoln-Lynch, perpetrator of a fatal hit-and-run in February, received a 1 to 3-year sentence in state correctional facility. Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen announced the sentencing, which concluded a case that claimed the life of South Glens Falls native Paul Trombley.

On February 27, 2022, at approximately 7:28 p.m., Lincoln-Lynch struck and killed Trombley near a Stewart’s store in South Glens Falls before fleeing the scene. Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation that led to a breakthrough two days later.

Pieces of the vehicle were identified as coming from a Subaru Forester. Investigators located Lincoln-Lynch and his vehicle on Bluebird Road in South Glens Falls.

Saratoga County Court Judge James A. Murphy, III sentenced Lincoln-Lynch to an indeterminate term of 1 to 3 years after he pleaded guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting (Death), a class D felony. The sentencing proceedings were attended by family and friends of the victim. Fifteen victim impact statements were read, including messages from Trombley’s wife, son, and daughter.

The current maximum sentence for a class D felony in New York is 2 1/3 to 7 years. Lucinda Trombley, wife of the victim, expressed her dissatisfaction during sentencing: “The maximum sentence for this crime is not enough. The victims of this crime deserve more respect than that.”

District Attorney Heggen acknowledged that the sentencing brought some closure but emphasized the need for legal reforms. “This case is an example of why the law must continue to evolve to ensure justice is served,” said Heggen.
