YONKERS, NY – The Yonkers Police Department has officially filed criminal charges against the driver responsible for the December 2022 accident, which resulted in the death of Detective Sergeant Frank Gualdino.

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, at about 3:34 PM, officers were called to a multi-vehicle collision on the Sprain Brook Parkway overpass on Tuckahoe Road.

The vehicles involved included a Westchester County Bee-Line bus, a 2020 BMW M5, and an unmarked police car. Detective Sergeant Gualdino, a 24-year veteran of the department and the driver of the police vehicle, later succumbed to his injuries.

The BMW driver, a 16-year-old male resident of Yonkers, was critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital. His identity remains confidential due to age considerations. This young individual was indicted by a Westchester County Court Grand Jury on Friday, for Criminally Negligent Homicide. He has since turned himself in and was arraigned in the Youth Part of Westchester County Court.

City of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano expressed the city’s and police department’s loss, praising the dedication of law enforcement agencies involved and acknowledging Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah for her efforts.
