65-Year-Old Man Dead, Shot During Carjacking Outside Upper Darby Mosque

UPPER DARBY, PA – Mohammad Rahman, a 65-year-old resident of Philadelphia and correctional officer at Riverside Correctional Facility, was fatally shot during a carjacking incident outside Masjid Al Madinah, also known as the Upper Darby Islamic Center at 201 S. 69th Street.

Upper Darby Police responded to the scene after a 911 call was made on Sunday evening.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Rahman with a gunshot wound to his chest and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the motive behind the shooting was carjacking and have since recovered Rahman’s stolen Toyota RAV4 in West Philadelphia. Surveillance images of a person of interest have been released, highlighting their ripped jeans and high-end sneakers.

The Upper Darby Police Department has not classified the incident as a hate crime and believes it to be a random act of violence.
