73-Year-Old Killed in Silver Spring Crash

SILVER SPRING, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is actively investigating a fatal collision that took place last Saturday near the intersection of Old Columbia Pike and Dustin Road. The department has issued a call for public assistance in locating family members of the decedent.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., Montgomery County Fire Rescue and MCPD were dispatched to the report of a single-vehicle collision.

CRU detectives have determined that a blue 2009 Hyundai Elantra, operated by Robert Hugh Haas, age 73, from Windsor Mill, was heading north on Old Columbia Pike. Haas’s vehicle failed to negotiate the traffic circle at Dustin Road and collided with a retaining wall.

Haas was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. The public is asked to come forward with any relevant information and contact the CRU at (240) 773-6620.
