Juvenile Charged with Handgun Possession at Wicomico County School

WICOMICO CO., MD – A 13-year-old student has been charged after being found in possession of a handgun at Mardela Middle and High School on Thursday morning.

The discovery was made when staff and the School Resource Deputy were informed about the potential threat.

A search of the student’s backpack revealed an unloaded 9mm handgun. No ammunition was present, and the school was able to address the situation promptly.

The student was removed from the campus by the Deputy, and charges including possession of a firearm by a minor and disturbing school operations were filed. The Department of Juvenile Services has since ordered the individual to be held, pending a Juvenile Court appearance.

The local community has been alerted, and the school district, along with the police department, is taking the necessary steps to ensure the continued safety of all students and staff.
