Man Charged for Halloween Railroad Attack

CUMBERLAND, MD — Cumberland Police Department officers executed an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Shawn Gladden on November 3, following an alleged assault at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad on October 31.

The arrest stems from a reported assault in progress where officers were called to the scene.

The victim, along with witnesses, informed the responding officers that an altercation involving verbal exchanges between the victim and Gladden escalated. Gladden is accused of physically assaulting the victim, throwing him to the ground, and striking him multiple times in the face.

Additionally, the victim reported that Gladden put him in a chokehold and applied an object to his temple, prompting witnesses to intervene. Officers noted a small laceration on the victim that was consistent with the account provided.

Following the incident, Gladden was taken into custody and has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and disorderly conduct. He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center.
