CENTER TOWNSHIP, PA – Terry Bruce Ely, Jr., a 34-year-old resident of Westmoreland City, is facing a series of charges after a high-speed pursuit that ended in a vehicle crash and subsequent vehicle theft. The incident led to his arrest and incarceration at the Indiana County Jail.

On the evening of last Saturday, Ely was involved in a police chase that commenced after a trooper from Troop A, Indiana Patrol Unit, attempted a traffic stop. Ely, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, fled from the officer and engaged in a pursuit which resulted in a three-vehicle collision. Despite the crash, there were no reported injuries from the involved parties.

Post-crash, Ely continued his flight by stealing a commercial vehicle from Martin’s Diesel Garage, which was later located through its in-cab camera and tracking device. His capture came about after a search of a residence in Indiana Borough, where he was found and detained without incident.

Charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including DUI and vehicle theft, Ely was arraigned with bail set at $50,000. The pursuit and subsequent arrest unfolded over the course of the evening, starting around 5:19 p.m. and concluding with Ely’s capture around 7:00 p.m.

The Pennsylvania State Police, assisted by local services, responded to the scene. Ely, who displayed signs of impairment and sustained injuries, was treated before being taken to jail.
