Dix Hills Man Receives 25-Year Sentence for Murder of Elderly Uncle

MINEOLA, N.Y. – On Tuesday, David Cahoon, 44, of Dix Hills, received a 25-year to life imprisonment sentence for the murder of his uncle in December 2018.

The sentence was handed down after a conviction for Second-Degree Murder, Forged Instrument Possession, and Grand Larceny.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly detailed the case’s background, starting with concerns raised by Milleridge Inn staff over the absence of regular patron William Cahoon, 70, which led to a welfare check and the discovery of his body with multiple stab wounds in his Levittown home on January 4, 2019.

The investigation, led by Nassau County Police Department detectives, revealed the victim was killed by his nephew, David Cahoon, on December 3, 2018.

In addition to the murder, Cahoon was found to have stolen $1,800 from his uncle’s bank account.
