NEWARK, NJ – On last Thursday, the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit led a collaborative law enforcement effort aimed at reducing gun violence through apprehending fugitives.

Dubbed “NJ SAFE,” the operation brought together multiple units and agencies, including the United States Marshals Service and the Newark Police Department, to target individuals wanted for various offenses.

The initiative focused on individuals with violent criminal histories, particularly those involved in shootings or with outstanding warrants.

The operation culminated in the arrest of five fugitives who are now held in county correctional facilities. The overarching aim is to enhance public safety by addressing gun-related crimes in the community.

Throughout this year, NJ SAFE has been executed across the state, resulting in the arrest of 90 fugitives, who cumulatively have a record of 636 prior arrests and involvement in 44 shooting incidents.
