Lackawanna Man Sentenced for Deadly Hit-and-Run

LACKAWANNA, NY – Emmanuel Muniz-Figueroa, aged 30, received a split sentence for a deadly hit-and-run incident that occurred last year.

State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens sentenced him to 6 months in jail and 5 years probation this Thursday.

The altercation between Muniz-Figueroa and 52-year-old Jose Matos occurred outside a Dona Street residence on August 28, 2021.

After an initial dispute, Matos was struck and killed by Muniz-Figueroa’s SUV when he returned to the scene. Muniz-Figueroa fled without reporting the accident.

Having pleaded guilty on September 14, 2022, Muniz-Figueroa also faces a $2,000 fine and revocation of his driver’s license as part of his sentence.
