Cumberland Man Arrested After Threatening Woman with Shotgun

CUMBERLAND, MD – Robert Lee Charlton III, 40, of Cumberland, MD, was arrested on charges including second-degree assault and illegal possession of a shotgun. The arrest, executed by the Cumberland Police Department, occurred on Saturday, November 11, following an earlier disturbance.

Police responded to a call at around 3:03 PM at a residence in the 400 block of Independence Street. The resident reported an argument with Charlton, alleging he assaulted her and threatened her with a shotgun. A subsequent search led to the seizure of a shotgun from the residence. Investigations revealed Charlton was prohibited from owning firearms.

Charges were filed against Charlton at the District Court of Allegany County. Following his arrest, Charlton was processed at Central Booking. He appeared before a District Court Commissioner and was released on personal recognizance. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding domestic disturbances and firearm-related offenses in the area.
