Elderly Woman Fatally Stabbed by Grandson in Amityville, Suspect Arrested

AMITYVILLE, NY – An early morning stabbing in Amityville resulted in the death of an 81-year-old woman, Suffolk County Police reported.

The incident occurred at a residence on Watkins Terrace. A 911 call at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, alerted authorities to the stabbing. Miraccia Leopold, 81, was swiftly transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where she was pronounced dead.

Dwight Clermont, 28, identified as homeless, was apprehended and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. She was identified as the victim’s grandson.

Clermont is scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the First District Court in Central Islip. He will be held overnight at the Suffolk County PD Third Precinct pending his arraignment.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing is ongoing.
