Fugitive Murderer Who Led Police on Two Week Manhunt Facing Escape Charges

HARRISBURG, PA – Attorney General Michelle Henry announced new charges against Danelo Cavalcante, a Chester County Prison escapee. Pennsylvania State Police have filed the charges relating to Cavalcante’s actions during his time at large.

Cavalcante, 34, escaped from Chester County Prison on August 31 while serving a life sentence for murder. During his two weeks of evasion, he allegedly committed several offenses to aid his escape and alter his appearance. These included burglarizing two homes in Pennsbury and South Coventry townships stealing a firearm, clothing, and a shaving razor. He is also charged with stealing a Ford transit van from Pocopson Township.

Attorney General Henry emphasized the defendant’s desperate measures to avoid capture, posing a significant threat to public safety. The Office of the Attorney General will prosecute the case, reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding Pennsylvanians and holding perpetrators accountable.

On Monday, Cavalcante was charged with 20 offenses, including felony burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, and firearm possession. He is scheduled for arraignment on these charges on Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens, Deputy Commissioner of Operations at the Pennsylvania State Police, acknowledged the extensive efforts of Cavalcante to evade law enforcement. He expressed gratitude to the Office of the Attorney General for prosecuting the case. He thanked local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and the residents of Chester County for their support and assistance during the search.
