PORTSMOUTH, VA – A series of shootings late Saturday night in Portsmouth resulted in one fatality and four injuries.
The initial incident was reported from Commonwealth Avenue shortly after 11 p.m., located near Rodman Avenue and Turnpike Road.
Responding Portsmouth police officers found four individuals with gunshot wounds. They were taken to local hospitals, with one victim’s condition being critical. Residents in the area reported a chaotic scene with numerous gunshots and ensuing police activity.
Shortly after, while officers were still at the first scene, additional shots were heard from another city location. Police subsequently discovered another shooting victim on Virginia Avenue near the London Oaks Apartments. Despite medical attention, the individual succumbed to their injuries.
The Portsmouth Police Investigations Bureau is actively investigating both incidents. They ask anyone with information to come forward, offering an anonymous tip line for any leads.
