Great White Shark Tracked Near Ocean City, Maryland

OCEAN CITY, MD – A great white shark measuring 9 feet 7 inches and weighing 430 pounds was spotted off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland at around 8:40 pm on Sunday.

The shark, named Ocracoke, is being tracked by OCEARCH.org, an organization specializing in researching and monitoring marine species

Ocracoke, the 91st white shark tagged in the Western North Atlantic by OCEARCH, represents the third shark tagged during the organization’s Expedition Northbound. The male shark received its name in honor of Ocracoke Island, situated near the location of its initial encounter and tagging.

OCEARCH’s tracking technology allows researchers and the public to follow the movements of sharks like Ocracoke, contributing valuable data to the study of marine life patterns and behaviors.
