Newark Man Arrested for Multiple Business Burglaries in New Castle County

NEWARK, DE – The Delaware State Police have apprehended 44-year-old Jimmy Kelly of Newark, Delaware, on various charges following a string of business burglaries in New Castle County.

Between October 21 and November 17, 2023, the police investigated nine burglaries in the Newark, Wilmington, and Middletown areas. The method involved forced entry by shattering front glass doors of businesses during early morning hours, with the suspect removing property and fleeing in an unknown vehicle.

Delaware State Police Troop 2 Property Crimes Detectives, working with out-of-state law enforcement, identified Jimmy Kelly as the suspect. The burglaries attributed to Kelly include incidents at Nails Haven, Jiffy Lube, Dimples Nail Boutique in Newark, Dogtopia in Wilmington, La Camarona Restaurant, Cunningham Irish Pub in Newark, and Amstel Barbershop, Go Green Cleaners, and Kingdom Spa in Middletown.

Kelly was arrested on November 21, 2023, at a Wawa in Newark and faces multiple charges, including eight counts of Burglary Third Degree, two counts of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, Attempted to Commit Burglary, four counts of Theft Under $1,500, and nine counts of Criminal Mischief.

Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Kelly was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $28,500 secured bond.
