Teen Arrested for Stealing Israeli Flag from Clarkstown Town Hall

CLARKSTOWN, NY – On Nov. 23, 2023, Clarkstown Police responded to an incident at the town hall where the Israeli flag was reported stolen. The theft occurred at approximately 12:15 pm. A witness reported seeing an individual, described as a male in dark clothing, forcibly removing the flag from its pole and fleeing toward Route 304.

Police officers quickly located a suspect on Congers Road, east of Route 304.

The individual, identified as a 15-year-old male, was apprehended while attempting to hide the flag inside his sweatshirt. He was arrested and taken to Clarkstown Police Department (CPD) headquarters for processing.

The case is being handled by the CPD’s Juvenile Aid Bureau – Detectives, given the age of the arrestee. The department is actively investigating the incident, including exploring the potential classification of the act as a hate crime.
