TAZEWELL, VA — A Thanksgiving Day in Tazewell County saw a fatal dispute between two neighbors in the Tip Top area.

Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Brian L. Hieatt, received a call just after 3 p.m. reporting a shooting.

The incident involved Jerry Keen, 56, who fatally shot his neighbor, Terry Hager, 61, before taking his own life.

Deputies and EMS found Hager deceased in his living room and Keen in the front yard of his home. The two men were subsequently taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.

Sheriff Hieatt indicated that factors including a past incident in December 2021 might have contributed to the outcome. The investigation continues with a meeting scheduled with the Medical Examiner.
