Queens Man Sentenced for Injuring Correction Officer in 2022 Shootout

QUEENS, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the sentencing of Mark Gibbs to 11 and a half years in prison for his involvement in a July 2022 shooting that wounded an off-duty correction officer.

Gibbs, 24, of Parsons Blvd., previously pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

The incident occurred on July 3, 2022, on 214th Place and Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica. David Donegan, the off-duty correction officer, was injured during an altercation where Gibbs and his co-defendant, Sevaughn Green, were involved in a shootout.

Donegan sustained a gunshot wound to his calf, while Gibbs was shot three times in the torso and Green in the leg.

Justice Gia Morris also sentenced Gibbs to five years of post-release supervision. Green, 21, of Dewitt Avenue in Brooklyn, awaits his sentencing scheduled for December 11.
