Man Choked During Armed Robbery in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Police Division, led by Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé, is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect involved in a robbery.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 21, around 8:57 pm on Chestnut Street.

The victim was attacked from behind and placed in a chokehold by the male suspect, who demanded his possessions.

The victim managed to escape, while the assailant fled eastbound towards Van Buren Street. The victim received medical treatment at University Hospital.

Detectives are actively investigating this case and ask anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Newark Police Division’s Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All tips remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward.
